We have many books that are readable but a little too well-worn for the shop. One evening we were pondering what to do with these when we had a brilliant idea. We’ll post them through people’s letterboxes! People love getting things for free and it would save our books from the recycling. It has been a great way to spread the word about Book-Cycle and has already found us a new volunteer. A leaflet and stamp in each book explains where the book is from and what we do at Book-Cycle and wishes that the recipient enjoys the book or passes it to someone who will. It is great fun walking through the streets in the early evening with a sack of books on your back, posting them through doors, you feel, and look!, slightly like Father Christmas. We call it “pixieing”. If you would like to be a Book-Cycle pixie and distribute random literature in your local area, please let us know. New pixies always wanted : ) The local Exeter paper, the Express & Echo ran a piece on Post-Cycle and our pixies, in April 2008. |
