Buturi is located in the Northern part of Tanzania, not far from Musoma and the Serengeti river. Like many parts of sub-Saharan Africa it has suffered from the diasters of AIDs and drought. Many of the villagers are fishermen and subsistence farmers, typically living in thatched mud huts without electricity or water, which is imperative in the fight against disease. The project is aiming to be developed in three stages, the first is the vision of creating a clean water supply, pre-school nursery and education centre, they project will later develop vocational training schemes and construct small buildings in the area.
http://www.buturi-project.co.uk/vision.html The provision of safe water is of paramount importance to the well- being and future sustainable development of this village. Without this, the community cannot move forward in their basic needs for health, education and employment.
