Book-Cycle's World Book Day Extravaganza!!
Books for Kids and Kids for Books!

Thursday 4th March 2010

For this year's World Book Day, Book-Cycle is inviting local schools, literacy groups and YOU to get involved in the biggest annual celebration of books and reading in the U.K. and Ireland. Our project this year involves encouraging young, eager readers to send their favourite book(s) to one of our partner charities. This allows them to come down to our shop and choose 5 free books for themselves to keep.

Thus, hopefully inspiring ever more people to fall into the beautiful world of reading...

We would like to take this opportunity to thank you for taking part in our project for World Book Day. Outlined below are some simple guidelines for the children to follow to package their books.

ALL BOOKS MUST BE MARKED WITH THE FOLLOWING MESSAGE FOR PACKAGE HANDLERS:-

HUMANITARIAN AID FROM U.K. NO COMMERCIAL VALUE. NOT FOR RESALE.
ELIGIBLE FOR NON-STATISTICAL PROCEDURE.

This usually conferes a safe passsage to your parcel. Other destinations need no code.

Books for Ethiopia – (as above)…
(INTERNATIONAL CUSTOMS CODE 100.0098. FOR E-YES / ACET SPONSORED CHILDREN.)

PLEASE DO NOT INCLUDE ANY BOOKS OF A MAGICAL OR RELIGIOUS NATURE
DUE TO CULTURAL DIFFERENCES.

What you will need:-

 - An Empty Cereal Box
 - Cello Tape / Parcel Tape
 - A4 Blank Sheet of Paper – Cut in Half
 - Felt Tip Pen
 - Your Favourite Book

    Follow These Simple Steps..........

  1. Write a short note or card to go with the book(s). Give it a personal touch, mention something about yourself, you could draw a picture or attach a photo. (Please acknowledge Book-Cycle in the note).

  2. Open out the cereal box, put the book and your note inside and wrap it up like a present. Make sure you stick it well around the edges as it could travel up to 10,000 miles!! Now you can choose which school you'd like to send it to by going to our Partner Charities page.

  3. Write the address of the partner charity you are sending the books to. Underneath write the message for parcel handlers (above in bold). Make sure you write this as clearly as possible.

You are now ready to post the parcel. Head to the nearest post office and request to send the parcel via surface mail or airmail. State that the contents are printed materials.

  4. Write each child's name and their school on the back of their receipt. When you have time, come and choose 2 extra books to take home and keep. (That's five books per world book day champion!)

Happy Reading!!

We will send / give each child a certificate to celebrate the amazing thing they have done by being a World Book Day Champion. Steps 1-3 could be done as part of their Literacy or English class or at home as a fun family orientated activity. Steps 4-5 will need the assistance of a parent or guardian. In order for the children to collect their free books from the shop they have to retain the receipt from posting the book.
